JUNE NEWSLETTER: rest well, this summertime
RG Family —
It might be a little late to say it, but Happy June!! And wow, does it feel good to be well-rested.
As I sat with this month’s theme, “Rest Well This Summer,” I had no idea how deeply I’d find myself in a season not only of rest but also of surrender. I’ve come to realize that true rest isn’t just about slowing down physically. There’s a deeper sweetness in surrendering while we rest.
If I’m honest, this season of doing less has been challenging for me. I’m someone who thrives on productivity: doing, building, creating. So resting without a to-do list? That’s new. And at times, even uncomfortable. I’ve noticed moments of procrastination creeping in, but I’m learning that rest isn’t about doing nothing. It’s about trusting that God is working even when we are still.
Rest, I’m finding, is multifaceted. It’s not laziness. It’s not boredom. It’s not just catching up on sleep. It’s a sacred space where rest, surrender, and joy intersect. And when we use that space with intention -- whether that’s journaling, praying, reading, or simply sitting in God’s presence, it transforms how we experience our days.
Many people take this time of year to unwind on vacation, only to jump right back into the hustle and grind. But I truly believe the Lord invites us to live differently. He calls us to a rhythm of grace, one that honors both work and rest.
So what happens when there’s not much going on? I’m learning that even the quiet seasons hold purpose. And often, they’re where God does His most tender work and reminding us to trust Him with what’s ahead.
I may be physically rested, but my mind has been racing -- planning, wondering, questioning. That’s where the surrender piece comes in. Resting well means letting go. It means trusting God with the things I can’t control and remembering: He’s faithful. He’s got it. And He’s already working on everything I’ve prayed for.
So this month, I invite you to slow down. Quiet your mind. Surrender your plans. Let the God who loves you truly carry you. He’s proven time and time again that He will.
His ways are better. His plans are greater. His care is unmatched.
Let this be the summer you rest well, body, mind, and spirit — knowing your Father is taking care of it all.
Monthly Scripture Reflection: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NIV
Prayer for the Month of June: I pray this month that your rest would refill your cup, the same cup that has poured and poured into others. I hope you find time this summer to rest in the things that re-center you, align you, and draw you closer to the Father’s heart. May you experience His love, His presence, and His peace that surpasses all understanding. In Jesus' Name, Amen!
